Swindon Town Preview: with Ollie Banks

This afternoon sees Tranmere Rovers play at home in the league for the first time of 2019, up against a Swindon Town side who sit 12th in the league table.

Rovers began the year unbeaten after a 1-1 draw away at Macclesfield Town and an emphatic 3-1 win away at Cheltenham Town bringing an end to a six game streak without a win on the road.

Rovers midfielder Ollie Banks who made his return to the pitch in the FA Cup defeat against Tottenham Hotspur and scored on his first game back in the league last Saturday, is in line for his first home start since November.

Proving a point

Ollie Banks says that Rovers look to set the record straight after the defeat in the away match against Swindon Town.

The Whites went without midfielder Jay Harris for the majority of the match and eventually lost the match 3-2 after going 2-0 up in the early stages.

"We dominated the game at their place for the first twenty minutes and without the sending off, it could have been any number," he said.

"It is the same team as what we have played against down there pretty much, we will not be taking the game lightly," Banks added.

Banks reiterated that the Cheltenham win will give a huge boost ahead of an important game against a side not far behind Rovers in the table.

"We have to go into that game full of confidence after a good away win, it will be nice to get back at home.

"It will be my first game at home since Oldham which must be about five or six weeks ago now," the 26-year old said.

What a win could mean

If Micky Mellon's Tranmere side continue the unbeaten run to 2019 and pick up another 3 points, then they could jump as high as fifth.

This could bring Rovers to just two points behind Mansfield Town who they play at the One Call Stadium next week.
